Dee Henderson has been one of my daughter's favorite authors for a very long time, but I had never had any interest in reading her stories. A few days ago I noticed I had this book on my audible shelves and decided to give it a listen.

I'm glad I did!

Ms. Henderson is a popular Christian Romantic Suspense author whose stories are part thriller, part mystery, part romance, and always inspirational. She takes the readers deep inside the minds of the "victim" and/or the lead characters, allowing us to watch them rely on their faith in God to help them through whatever it is they're facing.

Danger in the Shadows is a poignant tale of one woman's life in hiding, running from a deranged man who killed her twin sister when they were just little girls. The memories of that time, the survivors' guilt, and putting her trust in God to see her through is a huge part of the story, along with Sara fighting her growing feelings for Adam, a man who refuses to let her battle her demons alone.

All in all this is a great story! The narrator's voice is rich, deep, and captivating. I'm often thrown off kilter by a male giving voice to a female character. Even though Tom Stechschulte's deep voice did take a bit of time getting used to, I'll definitely be looking for more audio books by this talented narrator, as well as more stories by Dee Henderson.

I hadn't expected this book to be as strong as it is, or as willing to see the horror, agony and darkness some of us have gone through. Dee Henderson is clearly willing to see those things and how someone can hold onto God as she lives through them. God's comfort, strength and glory is surely present as the heroine, her brother and the man who learns to love her are trapped in darkness and must struggle to reach the light. It's a fraught and deeply moving journey, and I was in tears and praying when I finished reading. The best stories, overtly Christian or not, lead us closer to God. This one certainly does. Thank you, Dee Henderson!
DANGER IN THE SHADOWS is a wonderful book. Dee Henderson has shown a strength in plotting and writing that had me glued to my seat for hours to finish the book.
Sara walsh was abducted when she was a young child, and after 9 days of captivity in a dark basement she is found. The man who kidnapped her never is, but he is still terrorizing her. She is a protected woman, living with FBI protection and moving constantly to keep a step ahead of the insane man who wants to control her.
Her life is a terror, always watching over her shoulder, always being watched and never getting close to anyone. Adam Black is a sports hero, high profile, now retired. He meets Sara and wants her, unaware of her need for privacy and security. As much as she pushes him away, he is drawn to her and her situation, but struggles to understand what she went through and how it's affecting her as an adult.
Adam and Sara are meant to be together but the roadblocks in the way of a relationship working are enormous. There is a man walking free who has put Sara through the most unimaginable nightmare and it's time she took her life back. They both have their faith, and knowing that God was watching over them gave them the strength to face the terror.
I loved this book. The terror was so subtly drawn, so carefully laid out that it pulled me in slowly and before I knew it I was jumping at shadows and suspicious of every noise. The romance between Adam and Sara had to be so strongly written to keep afloat with the suspense but Dee has done it very well.
I'm off to find Dee Henderson's other books now. Can't get too much of a good thing.

This is the book that got me started on Dee Henderson. I read this in 3 days. Could not put it down till I couldn't keep my eyes open any more to read and fell asleep just to wake up thinking about what was to come next in this story!!!!!!
I am thankful that I found Dee's books after she had written nearly all. I had to only wait for ONE to be published. I could NOT have imagined waiting for each and every story to be written then published. I had the luxury of reading one after the other and got my sister "hooked" on her too!!!!!!
This author writes.....well, as if these characters are your friends and you can't wait to talk to them.
I read the O'Malley series a long time ago (pre GoodReads), but loved it so much, I knew I wanted to read it again. A friend's challenge in a group here on GoodReads was the perfect 'excuse' to begin the series again!
It has been long enough since I've read the series, that while I had slight memories of the main characters, I'd forgotten enough of the plot to make it as exciting as the first time I read Sara and Adam's story. I really liked how the suspense played out, though it was hard to read what especially Sara had to go through in order to catch the culprit.
I appreciated the reminders that God numbers our days and that we can safely trust in His goodness, no matter the outcome.
Danger in the Shadows is book 0 of the O'Malley series. Sara was kidnapped at age six and is now in hiding with very tight security. Adam is a famous quarterback who meets her in an elevator and witnesses Sara's panic attack when the elevator stops and the lights go out. Of course he is attracted but it takes him some time and trouble to find out who she is and what is going on. This is a very suspenseful romance with a twist at the end. I think the security was a little bit unrealistic The characters are likable. There is a religious theme throughout. I recommend this book and others written by Ms. Henderson
